YOUTH INTERNSHIPS

Love to Give’s partnership with YearBeyond contributes to our mission to help children to have a better chance at succeeding in life. We are hosting and mentoring 50 young interns (yeboneers) who work with the children in the Kayamandi primary schools to improve their numeracy and literacy skills. This is meaningful work experience for the interns and it encourages a culture of service to the community. Do watch our latest video on Youth Internships for a glimpse into the program and to hear how some of the interns are enjoying the work they are doing. We are very grateful to Michael Middleton who made this video for us pro bono.

LOVE TO GIVE’S GARDEN MANAGER

Nomveliso joined us at the beginning of August and has been busy with the management of the garden. She works closely with the beneficiaries teaching them about gardening both in the garden and during regular gardening workshops. The produce from the garden supplements the monthly food parcels. Beetroot, peas and carrots have just been planted and the beds of cabbages and spinach are doing well. They have also been busy making compost and preparing mulch to protect the soil during the drier summer months ahead. A bank of nasturtiums is helping with the job of keeping pests away from the vegetables. Nomveliso also supports our beneficiaries in starting their own gardens at home. She recently completed her Diploma in Agricultural Management at the CPUT’s Worcester campus and dreams about starting a community garden in her village in the Eastern Cape one day. Joining Love to Give is her first step towards achieving this dream – we are very pleased that she is part of our team.
