Kayamandi is a suburb of Stellenbosch, where many live below the bread line, and their health, safety, education, and livelihoods are at risk or vulnerable. The population of Kayamandi is approximately 50 000 residents with a high percentage living in unserviced shack dwellings. Unemployment is estimated to be in the region of 40%. In the informal settlement area of Nkanini, there are only communal taps and public toilets. There is extreme poverty in these areas with families who show signs of critical malnourishment. Kayamandi is growing with additional land having been occupied for a new informal settlement called Azania. Love to Give works directly with families and their children, empowering them to take steps to earn a living, and to gain confidence to participate in community and political decisions which affect them.
