LOVE TO GIVE NEWSLETTER | MAY 2025
Hester is responsible for all operations at our centre, reporting to our Programme director, and ensuring that all the activities at Love to Give are well managed and run smoothly. She provides support to all the teams, both formally and informally. One of the things Hester says she loves about working at Love to Give is that no two days are ever the same.
Pictured above: Hester, sharing a laugh with Fundiswa Mqukusa, Kitchen Manager, and Frolinah Mgqadaza, co-ordinator Children’s Feeding, during a meeting about the children’s feeding at both Kayamandi and Ikaya Primary schools.
Hester manages our Nutrition Programme, which includes the Primary School Feeding Programme and Monthly Food Parcel Programme.
Hester ensures that the bread, peanut butter, nutritional porridge and fruit are delivered timeously and managed properly at our two feeding stations with all 1500 children receiving their daily meal from Love to Give. Together with Nomajama Jikela and Gloria Feleza, she also oversees the Food Parcel Programme, which provides food to the wider community, over and above the school feeding endeavour.

Hester is pictured left presenting to our newest group of 70 YeBoneers about Love to Give. YeBoneers are youth between 18 and 25 from the Kayamandi Community who spend ten months with us on one of the three YearBeyond Programmes – Little Explorers (the ECD programme), CUP (Catch up Programme) and @HomeLearning.
Hester manages the 100 Citizen Connect programme participants with the support of our Love to Give team. Participants come to us twice a week, and work in the vegetable garden, attend workshops and training, and are placed in internships to get work experience.

Pictured above: The Red group. The Blue group also attends twice a week. Together with her team, Hester manages their daily schedule as well as monitoring and ensuring punctuality and attendance, which is a critical marker in the programme. This data is submitted to the management of the Citizen Connect programme. Participants only receive their daily wage if they arrive and leave at the correct time and work an eight hour day.

Our two large community vegetable gardens are the responsibility of Hester and our Garden Manager, Nomveliso Xhalisile. Together they manage the stock of seedlings and compost, the planting and harvesting schedule as well as the training, education and daily work of the participants in the garden.

Hester in the Treepreneur Nursery. Love to Give became a Treepreneur hub this year. Our Friday Group beneficiaries are responsible for a watering and nurturing young trees in our nursery.  After a few months Neil from the Treepreneur project collects the young saplings and the beneficiaries are rewarded with vouchers for Food and Clothing.

Together with Project Director Annabel Rosholt, Hester manages visits to the centre and is ably supported by her team. We were visited by MBA students from the University of Mont Clair (UMC), New Jersey, USA in January.
